TALLAHASSEE FREENET ACCOUNT RESTORATION AND SYSTEM STATUS INFORMATION
AS OF Saturday, March 8, 2008 11:00 EST
This is an update as to the status of TFN Restoration Operations as of Saturday the 8th. TFN Admins and staff members have been working on testing the system for our users, and making sure that the programs and utilities we need are available for use. If you have any questions regarding this information, please mail tfn-problemstfnnet
TFN WEB PAGES (NOTICE - 3/8/08 11:00 EST): TFN is in the process of updating all webpages systemwide to remove old information from several pages. As a result, some information that is on our pages may be outdated and in the process of being updated. We ask that if you have any questions or problems that you send email to Either the Problems Team or the Questions Team. This information will be updated as quickly as TFN Staff can update it. We thank you for your continued patience as we update this information, and for your continued support of Tallahassee Free-Net!

DIAL-UP SERVICES (1/8/08): TFN has received a couple of requests for its local dialup numbers. At this time, Tallahassee Freenet does not have any active dialup numbers for users to connect to the system. However, users may connect directly to TFN using an SSH connection. Telnet connections to TFN will not be accepted, as this protocol is not secure. Users may still connect to TFN using FTP for the time being, and can use POP and IMAP to get thier mail. Users may also connect to TFN Webmail to access thier email. It is believed that TFN will not have any further dialup access, so users will have to connect to their own ISP's and then connect to TFN using the SSH protocol.

REVERSE DNS ISSUE: (Updated: 3/8/08) TFN Admins have been informed that the Reverse DNS Issue has been solved. If you are still experiencing issues with mail messages returned due to DNS issues/errors should submit (forward) the email, with all mail headers to The Problems Team

TFN HELPDESK NUMBER (10/31/2007): We have been informed that the TFN helpdesk number ((850) 606-2703)) has been Discontinued by the library. As a result, we have removed reference to that number on our webpages. Effective immediately, users are asked to email either the Problems Team or the Questions team with regard to questions or problems. When you do email us, please describe your problem or question in as much detail as you can, and please leave us your contact phone number for a return call. One of our TFN staffers will return your call as soon as possible, when necessary.

SERVICES: TFN has restored Mail, Webmail, POP3/IMAP, SSH, FTP/ SFTP, and HTTPD services for now. User accounts for the 160 users that requsted to be restored have been restored as well. TFN's webpage is up, as is our mailman lists for questions, problems and helplink related inquiries. At this time, Telnet services are still down, and we expect to transition users to Secure Shell in the future, as it is a more secure protocol.

USER ACCOUNTS: (EXISTING) If you are a user that told us that you wanted to continue your account on TFN: Please Note that all users on the TFN Account Transfer list have been restored. This list numbered 160 users. Please report any account related problems to tfn-problemstfnnet Thank you for your patience while we worked to get everyone restored.

USER ACCOUNTS: (Not transferred): If you were a user that did NOT tell us you wanted to keep your account, and you wish to do so, we will mostlikely be able to restore your account once we are sure that all of the of the existing transferred user acounts are working as they should. Information relating to these requests will be posted as soon as possible.

If you are a user who did not request to continue your account, and you now wish to, please mail tfn-problemstfnnet and we will restore your account for you.

USER ACCOUNTS:(NEW) New Account Registrations are OFFLINE at this time. Information relating to new accounts will be posted when we are able to restore existing users to the system, and make sure that our existing users have all thier files and that their accounts are fuctioning properly.

Thank you for your continud support Of Tallahassee Freenet - Florida's First Online Community.

This information will be updated as necessary and prudent
