       Many people believe that the Holocaust was caused by one crazy man (Hitler) coming to power in a unique set of circumstances. He was able to mesmerize the German people through terror and propaganda. Many people believe the Nazis were an aberration that resulted from mistakes made after World War I.

       The Volkish philosophy upon which the National Socialist Party was founded is deeply rooted in German history. For over two hundred years Germans had been thinking and writing the ideas that evolved into Nazi philosophy. Anti-Semitism has been alive for several thousand years. This article discusses anti-Semitism in Europe and German since the Enlightenment.
